The Mad River Path Association (MRPA) is holding its ninth annual Mad Dash community fitness event, a four-mile foot race or walk on the Mad River Greenway, Waitsfield, Vermont on Sunday, September 19, 2004. The MRPA is expanding its outreach to include more youth with the Clash at the Dash competition. The goal of the Clash at the Dash is to foster a culture of physical fitness among youth and provide interscholastic competition at this community event.

Building upon the friendly rivalry between two area schools, Harwood Union High School and Green Mountain Valley School, Clash at the Dash is open to all students, 18 years and under from any public or private school. Represented schools will vie for the commemorative silver Clash at the Dash traveling cup. The top five girls and top five boys combined will be ranked with bonus points added for schools that turn out more participants. Even students who are not competitive runners or who wish to walk can contribute. All students are eligible for Mad Dash awards. Students receive many of the benefits of the event including refreshments, bib number drawing for prizes and a special commemorative short-sleeved T-shirt. Schools are asked to sign up students on a roster and make one payment to the MRPA. Students can register early at the discount rate of $6.00 to enter the foot race or walk. Race day registration for students is $15.00, and we cannot guarantee that shirts will be available. Buses are welcome and carpooling is appreciated.
